Mrs. C. H. Meigs Home
419 Summit Avenue
1897

The Mrs. C.H. Meigs home is located at 419 Summit Avenue. One of the earliest homes constructed on that street, it was designed by D.W. Willard and built in 1897 by the Donalds. D.W. Willard’s own New England style home on South Avenue is a twin of this residence. Mrs. Meigs’ nephew, Stewart Hotchkiss, designed the New England gardens.

In 1917 the four acre estate was purchased by Samuel S. Sewall, a partner in a family shipbuilding company in Bath, Maine. The changes he made in the house evidence his love of the sea.

The present owners, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel S. Sewall III, are the third generation of Sewalls to own and maintain the home.
