Historic Preservation Faire – Saturday May 14, 2016 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A.K. Smiley Public Library at 125 W. Vine Street, Redlands

The Redlands Area Historical Society is sponsoring its second annual Historic Preservation Faire in celebration of National Historic Preservation month and the City’s Historic Preservation Fortnight. This informative event will include a variety of activities throughout the day.

Local interior designer, Kathleen Beall, ASID, CID with Beall Design Group, Inc. will be discussing how to the adoption of SB 407 changed the California Plumbing Code requiring the installation of low flow toilet fixtures for all homes sold.

Redlands architect, Shan McNaughton will present slides on the jewels of Redlands architectural history that have been lost in the past. Local historian Tom Atchley, Vice President of the Redlands Area Historical Society will be presenting a lecture on how Redlands developed that way it is, why do some streets run north and south and why others are on a diagonal.

The event will conclude with several local Redlands contractors participating in a panel discussion regarding restoring historic homes and properties. The roundtable will be moderated by Bill Blankenship, President of the Redlands Area Historical Society and Executive Director of the Riverside County Chapter of the Building Industry Association.

In addition to the programs that will be given in the Assembly Room of the library several booths will be set up in Smiley Park in between the library and the Lincoln Memorial Shrine. Information booths will be set up by the Historical Society and the Redlands Conservancy. Several local contractors and other businesses that deal with restoration of historic properties will demonstrate or be available for consultation. Mid-century furniture and other accessories will also be on display by local vendors. All the activities of the Historic Preservation Faire are free and open to the public.
