September 9, 2016 Program: “Redlands Citizens Finding Shelter in the Atomic Age”

Steve Spiller, the executive director of the Mission Inn museum in Riverside will be presenting a program on life in Redlands during the Cold War years of the 1950s and 1960s. Spiller wrote an unpublished manuscript in 1978 for his MA degree from the University of California, Riverside entitled “Revival of Civil Defense 1961-1962: A Community Reacts”. While researching his paper Spiller discovered some twenty-five bomb shelters built in Redlands.

The program will be held in the assembly room of the A.K. Smiley Public Library at 125 W. Vine Street, Redlands. The program starts at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26. The event is free and open to the public.
