January Program: Dennis Hansberger – Reminisces as County Supervisor – Monday, January 22, 2018

The speaker for the January 22, 2108 program will be Dennis Hansberger, former San Bernardino County supervisor for 24 years. Hansberger, at one time was the youngest chairman of the board in county history. He graduated from Redlands High School in 1960, attended Valley College and then the University of California, Riverside majoring in geology. He began working in county government in 1968 as an assistant to Supervisor Donald Beckord until 1972.

In 1972 Hansberger was elected supervisor of the Third District representing Redlands. As a member of the board he served on the Local Agency Formation Commission, and the South Coast Air Quality Board during its early formation. He also was a board member and president of the Southern California Association of Government. The Boys & Girls Club of Redlands is named after Hansberger who was able to secure $4 million in Federal funding for the construction of the 2003 club house on Lawton Street.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the assembly room of the A.K. Smiley Public Library located at 125 W. Vine Street, Redlands. The Historical Society programs are free and open to the public.
