Have you ever wondered what lies beneath the soil in downtown Redlands? While the city about ground tells a familiar story of citrus groves, railroads, and Victorian architect, the archaeological record below reveals an even deeper history. In The Archaeology of Redlands and the Surrounding Region, Dr. Donn R. Grenda explores how the layers of history beneath our streets, buildings, and parking lots remain remarkably intact despite more than 140 years of development. Beginning with an overview of Southern California prehistory and the Inland Empire’s early cultural landscape, his presentation will then focus on downtown Redlands and the hidden archaeological features still preserved beneath the modern city.
The program will be held on Tuesday, April 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the Redlands Contemporary Club.
Dr. Grenda is a principal at the Statistical Research, Inc. in Redlands. He is a registered professional archaeologist and former commissioner on the California State historical Resources Commission. For many years he has served on the Board of Directors of the Redlands Conservancy as its Vice-President.
